The hotly anticipated second instalment of the Wiseguys series took place at a venue steeped in swingers tradition. Hamptworth, who were on the calendar for the first two swingers seasons, played host to a very competitive and high scoring event in which Ben Richards prevailed with a quite brilliant 43 points.
Closely followed by Ian Wallace and Jeff Roberts on 42 each with Ian taking second on count back… and not a putt off like we’ve seen before on these shores…
As usual there were a number of side prizes on the day and Nathan Farrant took the first of the these with the nearest the pin in 2. With water over the back of this tricky approach Nathan went for the flag and earned his reward by winning the prize.
Next up with the par 3 8th. Playing around 150 yards uphill Nigel Farrant brightened up his round and found a great shot to within 4 foot of the pin to keep up the Farrant families great relationship with these little competition wins.
On the par 3 10th playing around 130 yards downhill with a very small landing area, ‘the voice’ Tiani managed to keep up his record of winning a nearest the pin in each season by caressing a 9 iron to around 6 feet.
And finally after a stewards enquiry was raised for him spending £2.99 on anything, it turned out it was very well spent on the SIM driver that rocketed his ball down over 300 yards the 15th fairway. As Shane Taylor took home the longest drive.
The last prize of the day went to a man who used to be known as the silverback. However now nearly 3 stone lighter he is now the wooden back and Mr Lee Chard, with a grand total of 16 points, added the wooden spoon to go next to the family portraits at casa del chard…
So many congratulations Ben and the hunt for the Wiseguys series Champion culminates at south Winchester on the 3rd October.
Before that though the Ryan Ross victory parade continues at Chilworth on the 5th September…
