With fairways and greens harder than a stick of Blackpool rock, scoring in the 1st wiseguys series event was extremely difficult for everyone… apart from one man…
The Chief Snitch can now proudly join the winners circle, before his son in law and prospective son in law, after shooting a hugely impressive 5 under round to win the event.
With COVID regulations putting pay to the usual gatherings a new system was in place using the golf game book app, meaning players could see a live leaderboard. Mind you, with the scoring on the day I think a large number of the field were looking at the wooden spoon score as opposed to the winning one!
Conditions were tough but there was still some great golf to be appreciated out there.
The always steady Mick Ringer secured the first nearest the pin on the 100 yard par 3 second over water. Jimmy Rowley took the longest drive on the par 5 6th. Toddler Moz got himself on the board by claiming the nearest the pin in two on the short but tricky tenth. And finally Alan Bingham won on the 18th with the pin in a nasty position in front of the water.
Fines were in place although somewhat subdued as it was a reduced audience but the most heinous crime of the day went to Ryan Thorpe, not just for his amazing head tan line, but for trying to arrange his own four ball!
Then the result everyone was keeping their eye out for, the wooden spoon, went to Dave Reed shooting an impressive +27 to ensure the wooden spoon has a loving home for the next few weeks…
