The Swingers season drew to a close at a soggy Queens Park, where only one player scored under par to claim victory.

The rain managed to subside for a day, however conditions where still very soggy and scoring was difficult throughout the field with a net CSS score of +1 for they day.

Which made Alan Benham’s maiden Swingers title even more impressive shooting a 4 under par net 67, ahead of Ryan Thorpe, Jake Quickenden and Luke Tiani who all came in with a net level par 71.

There were the usual points up for grabs via two nearest the pins and one nearest the pin in 2 and the bonus points on offer for these ended up making a big difference in the end of season standings too. The report for which will be posted soon…

The first of these holes was the 2nd. Playing 110 yards down the hill Luke ‘the voice’ Tiani sent a well struck attack wedge up in the air and landed around 5 foot from the pin which was good enough to earn another trophy to his collection. We won’t mention chairman Shane Taylor’s first shot which hit the road and ended in someone’s garden…

Moving on to the 9th playing 147 yards with trouble out to the right hand side, our very own Chief Snitch flushed a six iron which was arrowing towards the pin but ended up stopping around 6 foot short, but that marker was too good for the rest of the field to beat.

We had to wait another 9 holes for the last bonus hole of the season and somewhat fittingly our very own chairman ended his season with a flourish by taking the plaudits (as he does so well!) after a belting drive him and Oooo Jimmy were both around 30 yards from the pin and both put it to the 6 foot mark with their second. So, whilst they both held their breath, both of their playing partners measured the distance from the pin and Shane won by the smallest of margins…

And as a slight caveat, all of the bonus trophy winners came from the same group who all went out first which I believe is another first for the swingers!

Now whilst the end of season can bring out the best in players in can also bring out the worst. No one will forget the record 110 (net) from Mr Ben Richards at last seasons end of season. Although it wasn’t quite that bad, it was a round to forget for our very own martial arts specialist Jackie Chan who nearly had a Shanghai but settled on 108 to earn the coveted wooden spoon!

Nevertheless, the last word of the event, not the day, goes to our victor Alan Benham who carried on his victory celebrations into the night with his admiring fans… until next season happy swinging…
